NEW TO J&L

Just when we think it can’t get any better at the J&L offices, it has, with more of the country’s best actors joining our books.

Melanie Lynskey is without doubt one of New Zealand’s most successful exports. At the moment she has three projects in post production, including TV mini series Comanche Moon and feature films Itty Bitty Titty Committee and Big Stan. But most of exciting of all is Melanie’s project with Oscar winner Clint Eastwood, who is directing and producing her in Flags of our Fathers, opposite Ryan Phillippe. Melanie first came to attention in Peter Jackson’s stunning Heavenly Creatures and since then has carved out an extremely successful career in the US.  She is about to shoot a 13 part US television series but is very interested in reading New Zealand scripts, please refer any queries to Imogen Johnson.

Matthew Sunderland is the actor of the moment, thanks to his stunning portrayal of killer David Gray in Out of the Blue, the number one box office hit based on the Aramoana tragedy. Matthew’s performance has deservedly been critically acclaimed nationwide and on the back of that success, he has been cast in the latest digital feature from the Headstrong team, A Song of Good.  Matthew’s previous roles included a starring role in Gregory King’s Christmas and the short film Nature’s Way which was in competition in Cannes this year.

Tandi Wright is currently starring alongside Matthew in Out of the Blue. Tandi plays Julie Ann Bryson, who tragically lost her daughter, her partner and her partner’s child in the Aramoana massacre. Out of the Blue caps a big year for Tandi. She has also starred in Black Sheep and was the lead in ATC’s production of Twelfth Night. Tandi, who was chosen for an artistic residency at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, trained at Toi Whakaari and has two Chapman Tripp awards to her name. As well as theatre and film, Tandi is a vastly experienced television actress. Mostly recently she has starred in the likes of The Lost Children, Doves of War, Maddigan’s Quest and Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby.

Pip Hall, daughter of arguably New Zealand’s most famous playwright Roger, has also joined J&L. Pip graduated from Otago University in 1994 with a BA in Drama. She has extensive experience as an actor, stage and production manager and writer for both stage and screen. Her work includes No Man's Land, Landmine, queen b, Red Fish Blue Fish, Skitz, Shortland Street, Telly Laughs, and WNTV.

Sort of. well, most of them gave it a bit of a bash, but it's not easy to be a saint when you have the DNA of a sinner. Despite much opposition from her husband, Wolf; and the occasional temptation to veer from her chosen path, Cheryl led by example. Sure there were a few laws broken along the way in the name of the greater good and she did end up falling in love with a policeman, but even she is not perfect. In a world of the unknown, the people yearned for freedom, peace and truth. This truth was told in the intoxicating atmosphere of the cabaret hall – a haven of vice where sexuality, emotion, bohemianism and propaganda pushed modernism in its most vivid manifestation. Sex. Hypocrisy. Defiance. Escape. Silo Theatre explores the biting musical experience of Kurt Weill, Mischa Spoliansky and Frederick Hollander.
